A large number of books written in ivory and silver pillowcases containing the talents of the local artistes, the five hundred and fifty Jataka books and the entire Tripitaka, including the Pirith Book have been preserved. Among them are the elephant tooth, silver girdle and the Anunayaka Thera presented by King Keerthi Sri Rajasinghe in honor of Rathanapala Thera.Among the preserved antiquities of the temple are two vijinis. The two vinjipathi (rounds), made of fine engraving of crocodiles, prove the universal artistic talent of the Sinhala artist. The Katarangala Viharaya has been received by colleagues. They are believed to have been completed about eight hundred years ago.Dr. Senarath Paranavithana once commented on the sight of the two ivory toothpicks and said that it could be a work of King Dututhis who was a gifted artist who made the kingdom of Anuradhapura.
ඉතා පැරණි මැටි බඳුන් සෑහෙන ප‍්‍රමාණයක් කටාරංගල රජමහා විහාරය තුළ කෞතුක භාණ්ඩ ලෙස සුරක්‍ෂිතව පවතී. පුරා විද්‍යාත්මක ගවේශණ වල දී මැටි භාණ්ඩ වැදගත් සාධකයකි. ශිෂ්ඨාචාර ආරම්භයත් සමග අතිත මානවයා බුද්ධියෙන්, කලාවෙන්, තාක්‍ෂණයෙන් පුළුල්වත්ම ඒ දැනුම් සම්භාරය තම දෛනික අවශ්‍යතා සඳහා යොදාගත් බව සාදාගත් උපකරණ ඔස්සේ ප‍්‍රකාශනය කරයි. අමුද්‍රව්‍ය ලෙස මැටි පහසුවෙන් සොයාගත හැකි වීම නිසා මැටි භාණ්ඩ පරිහරණයට හුරු වී ඇත. මේ තුළින් ජනාවාස, කලා නීර්නය කිරීම, සමාජ ස්ථරයන්, ආගමික අභිචාරයන්, ආර්ථිකය, කලාව තාක්‍ෂණය හා ජාත්‍යන්තර සබඳතා ආදී අතීත මිනිසාගේ කි‍්‍රයාකාරකම් ගවේෂණයට මැටි බඳුන් බෙහෙවින් ඉවහල් වෙයි.
